MobileMe Mail

MobileMe Mail

by George Edward Green III

Okay.

Despite having written for years a column called ThinkPositive I do sometimes feel the need to rant.  MobileMe mail is one reason why.  Obviously MobileMe web mail is not meant to be a full fledged email app, and certainly such an app is something quite difficult to do on the web but what annoys me is that there’s something really really really simple it does not do; mail rules.

Having server side mail rules taking care of garbage mail and putting em in junk or deleting them all together would be extremely handy!  You wouldn’t have to spend 40 minutes a day trying to get rid of garbage email that could have been hit head on.  Instead if you subscribe to me.com you have to wait for garbage you don’t need to download to Mail.App, and then determine whether your local rules put it in the trash and then delete it.  Cost of the data transfer is a non issue but if, like myself, you get a fair enough about of email per minute the time spent downloading garbage, the time spent deleting it, and the hours Mail.App takes to open or search when you don’t add up big time.

All that said Apple does have a full plate with fixing existing issues and and apparent platter full of services they want to put on the Me.Com platform but it’d be nice if they’d refine the old ones rather than continually reinventing them and then taking off like a distracted prom date after new features.
